Ventipulmin 30 micrograms/ml Solution for Injection is a prescription-only bronchodilator and mucokinetic medicine licensed exclusively for use in horses, administered by slow intravenous injection. Containing clenbuterol hydrochloride as the active ingredient — a highly selective beta-2 adrenergic agonist — Ventipulmin Injection provides intense bronchodilating properties by relaxing airway smooth muscle, decreasing airway resistance, and stimulating muco-ciliary clearance, with minimal effect on the cardiovascular system. It is used in the management of respiratory disease where airway obstruction due to bronchospasm and/or mucus accumulation is a contributing factor, and is a POM-V product requiring a valid veterinary prescription before it can be dispensed.
Product Description
Ventipulmin Solution for Injection is indicated for the management of respiratory disease in horses where airway obstruction is considered a contributing factor. It may be used as a standalone treatment or as part of adjuvant therapy. In cases accompanied by bacterial infection, the administration of appropriate antimicrobial agents is recommended alongside treatment.
For Horses:
Management of acute, sub-acute and chronic respiratory allergies where bronchospasm or airway obstruction is a contributing factor
Management of acute, sub-acute and chronic respiratory infections — including bronchitis, bronchiolitis, and bronchopneumonia — where the presence of mucus and/or micro-organisms stimulates bronchospasm or causes airway obstruction and increased airway resistance; conditions may include those associated with equine influenza and other viral respiratory diseases
Management of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) / recurrent airway obstruction where bronchospasm and mucus accumulation are contributing factors

Following intravenous administration, transient mild muscle tremor and sweating may occur; these effects are associated with peripheral vasodilation, a feature of all beta-adrenergic drugs, and may be minimised by administering the product slowly
This product antagonises the effects of prostaglandin F2-alpha and oxytocin; do not use concurrently where these effects are required
This product is antagonised by beta-adrenergic blocking agents; in cases of accidental overdose, a beta-blocker such as propranolol may be used as an antidote under veterinary supervision
In cases of respiratory disease complicated by bacterial infection, concurrent administration of appropriate antimicrobial agents is recommended
Human safety — accidental self-injection: Accidental self-injection may produce tachycardia and tremor; these effects may be reversed by the use of a non-selective beta-blocker. If accidental self-injection occurs, seek medical advice immediately, avoiding driving if possible
Human safety — clenbuterol (beta-agonist): This product contains clenbuterol, a beta-agonist. Avoid skin contact when handling the product; in case of skin contact, wash the affected area thoroughly and seek medical advice if irritation occurs or persists
